Today, I had another experience worth posting(or it was just my humble opinion). I received a text message from our club president, asking my opinion about when to fix the bulletin board. I replied, "This afternoon if possible". It would be unfair if she would be the only one to fix the said bulletin for it would require time, money and effort so I added, "Please send a message to the other officers to help you. I will be there. Let's meet at around three or four". To be sure, I also had a "text brigade" to the other officers.
In spite of being a newbie,
our Department Coordinator gave me a special task, that is, to be the adviser of SAMAKA (short term for Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral ng Kasaysayan). It's an additional challenge for me because, as a newbie, I am still in the process of adjustment; I still don't exactly know the rules and regulations of the school, especially on how to handle organizations/clubs. I am very sensitive when it comes to following rules. I don't want to commit mistakes especially when it comes to handling financial matters. Finally, I hate to admit it, but I don't have any skill in leadership; I don't know how to initiate and give ideas. I know how to follow rules and directions of my superior. However, I don't have an originality of ideas. If you wanted a nice outcome, give me an idea, and I would execute it. In short, I am a mere follower, not a born leader, or so I thought.
I think I'm just lucky that the club officers are very eager and active. After sending text messages, most of them replied and assured me that they would be coming to help. Hence, I continued doing the laundry, then ate lunch, and rested for an hour. I arrived at school thirty minutes late and most of them had already been waiting for me.
We finished at around 6PM. The result was not that bad since we just had to make the "Kagawaran ng Araling Panlipunan" lettering size smaller, because it had consumed almost half the entire space of the bulletin board, and to give space for other things, especially the mission, vision and core values of DepEd. The result:
Not so good, but not so bad, I guess. In addition, we had a chance to get together and to talk about the activities that the officers wanted to do for the upcoming Araling Panlipunan week. It used to be "Araling Panlipunan Month" , with United Nations Day as the highlight of the celebration. But now, it has shared the same month with "Buwan ng Wika". Some activities that they were able to suggest are the following:
1. Palarong Pambansa. We chose typical games for Filipinos like "tumbang preso", luksong tinik", "palosebo", "basagan ng palayok", "piko" and "patintero. Due to unavailability of resources and hazardous nature, "palosebo" and "basagan ng palayok" were out of the list.
2. Bayani "Kalokalike". It was like an ordinary beauty/masculinity pageant, but this time, the participants will choose some well-known personalities and will impersonate them. Each participant should also know some famous quotations that their chosen character is famous for.
3. Cultural Dances. Each class section should have 10-25 participants. They should choose any native dance and show the audience like a real performer.
4. Quiz Bee, Essay and Poster Making.
5. Histo- trivia with prizes.
We also talked about the club shirt and ID.
To sum it up, we finally had a chance to exchange ideas about the upcoming month.
